Thank you for taking the time to learn more about what I am trying to do for Nyana by watching that informative video. I feel it is important to let everyone know that although fundraising can be a long, exhausting process for a cause that is so new to so many people, I feel that it is so worth it!! Not only am I trying to help my child to possibly gain some vision, but also to help "educate the masses", so-to-speak, about the break-through scientific approach to human-trial UCB-SC!! (Umbilical cord blood stem cells.) It was new to me, and like other parents in my situation, deciding to take the leap of faith and trust in the success of other children who have had the stem cell procedures done was ultimately my deciding factor to go forward. Throughout the "decision process" I have come across MANY negative articles released from Medical Doctors in the US. regarding cord blood cell therapies performed in CHINA. However, I want to assure people that I am VERY AWARE of all factors and that I have looked into all of this thoroughly.
OK. This is my PERSONAL OPINION on the matter: (Here come's my journalism side, bare with me.)
Obviously I am no medical Doctor so my opinions are just opinions. The main thing I want to point out is that the Doctors in the states who are against the current clinical patient trials being performed in China for money is simply this...They are concerned that there hasn't been years and years of clinical testing on animals first, then once they are successful, move to clinical trials in humans for years to make sure there is no disasterous long-term side affects, etc. etc. That makes sense in theory. But then so do alot of things. Some doctors have gone as far as stating that what they are doing in China is "simply obsured" and "a medical fraud takes innocent parents' money", and "There is no scientific proof that it actually works. Just Here-say". Now what I would like to ask those Doctors in the states who are trying to discourage anyone from stem cell therapies is this. If it is a scam, if it is a 'medical hoax'... then most certainly ALL THE STEM CELL PATIENTS with pre-existing conditions & deseases who have gone to china (over 7,000 in total now) are all simply "STRETCHING THE TRUTH" about their miraculous cures and improvements in their conditions. Because, you know, "all of their pride is hurt and they dont want to let any of their family, friends and sponsors down by admitting that it just wasn't medically possible". --- to quote one US Doctor.
THAT'S GOT TO BE IT! AND THEY ARE ALL BLUFFING ABOUT THEIR IMPROVEMENTS! THEY HAVE ALL BEEN DUPED BY THE PLACEBO AFFECT. WOW...WHY DIDNT I NOTICE THIS SOONER? ha ha~
Quite frankly...the majority of the US medical community claims that there are no real documented cases of ANY success with ANY stem cells to date! A supervisor for the Clinical Trials Vision Center at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles stated that there are current case studies with lab rats and ONH with stem cells being performed here, and they have YET to have any success with them. STOP. BACK UP. First off, how can there be any accurate results of stem cell therapies with LAB RATS, (animal testing is not only CRUEL,it is a waste of time, WE are NOT mice!!) and Secondly, how can that even be a basis for COMPARISON when the lab rats are OBVIOUSLY not BORN with ONH...they have had some medical procedure done to their optic nerves to resemble ONH symptoms..AT BEST! OF COURSE IT WILL NOT YEILD POSITIVE RESULTS! Testing with animals is a WHOLE other subject that I dont want to even dwelve into at the moment. I do know that statistics stated from the good ol' FDA themselves... that, and I quote: "92 per cent of drugs which pass animal trials are found to be unsafe or ineffective in human trials and never reach the market." Recent statistics from the U.K. have also concluded that cancer, amoung other human alements have been directly linked to eating animal products. (Hmm, I wonder why the FDA hasnt brought that up lately? OH, right...because they OWN the MEAT INDUSTRY as well!!) Let me also note that for the last 20 YEARS we have been trying to find a cure for cancer using animals... that has gotten us far, hasn't it??? Some US Doctors & Scientists say that allowing our children to have stem cell therapy 'at this stage of the trial' is UNETHICAL.
However, "controlled animal testing" is being done by the bioengineers who are cloning animals in the US...soon to be humans if we let them, as well as gene "splicing"... adding human genes to animals to harbor extra limbs, etc. How is THAT ETHICAL?? Do you want a possible unknown animal desease from your new PIG HARBORED KIDNEY? (Ok, that was extreme, but so is the bologney that stem cells treatments are unsafe.)
**MAY I NOTE THAT BEIKE BIOTECH HAS SUCCESSFULLY INJECTED STEM CELL THERAPY FOR OVER 30 DIFFERENT DESEASES AND CONDITIONS IN OVER 7,000 PATIENTS TO DATE. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT. AMERICA LOST ALOT OF THEIR BRILLIANT SCIENTISTS TO CHINA BECAUSE OF THE PREVIOUS CONTROVERSY ABOUT STEM CELL RESEARCH. THAT IS WHY THERE IS A GENERAL NEGATIVE RESPONSE TO THE POSITVE RESULTS BEIKE BIOTECH IS PROVIDING. SIMPLY STATED. **

How can some people with such high intellegance comment on something with conviction that they havent personally experienced??? These US doctors, some of them being biochemists, neuroscientists, opthamologist professors...they have NOT personally seen what goes on in CHINA and therefore, can NOT accurately comment on the matter until they have. BOTTOM LINE. IF THEY ARE NOT DIRECTLY INVOLVED OR EDUCATED ON THE MATTER IN THE "AMERICAN JOURNAL OF MEDICINE" OR SOMETHING WITH THE AMERICAN LABEL...THEN, IT CAN'T POSSIBLY BE TRUE, OR EFFECTIVE! WHAT A BUNCH OF B.S. IF YOU ASK ME.
Some US doctors have noted that UCBSC's are quite possibly the wave of the medical future...but they are hesitant to jump on the "hooray bandwagon" because not enough cases have been reported. That is a little bit better of an answer.
IT IS 2008 PEOPLE~~ WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO UNDERGO 20 YEARS OF ANIMAL LAB TESTING, AND CLINICAL TRIALS TO GET APPROVED THROUGH THE FDA, BECAUSE THAT IS HOW IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN DONE. JUST BECAUSE THAT IS HOW IT HAS BEEN DONE, DOES NOT MAKE IT THE ONLY RIGHT WAY.
AS A MOM...I CAN NOT WAIT FOR YOU TO RUN TESTS ON INNOCENT MICE, MONKEYS AND CATS FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND THEN PASS A BILL THROUGH THE FDA TO GET CLINICAL TRIAL TESTING, AND THEN GET IT APPROVED IN THE US TO BE ADMINSTERED...AND THEN CHARGE A MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE SAME PROCEDURE AND HAVE A WAITING LIST LIKE WE DO NOW FOR TRANSPLANT PATIENTS...NO THANKS. I HAVE FAITH IN THE FACT THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS BEING DONE ON HUMANS...(God forbid, HUMANS???!!!!) IT IS WORKING!
AND THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE. IT IS WORKING. IT IS NOT A GIANT HOAX. THERE IS NOT A LAB COAT JERK ROLLING CHICKEN GUTS ON MY DAUGHTERS EYES AND CHANTING IN TONGUE IN SOME SMALL RURAL CHINESE HOSPITAL BED BEHIND A CURTAIN WHERE NOTHING IS BEING RECORDED, JOURNALED, VIDEO TAPED, OR EXAMINED. ON THE CONTRARY, I AM PROUD TO POSSIBLY BE A PART OF A CHANGE IN WHAT THE WORLD NOW KNOWS ABOUT MEDICINE!!! THIS IS ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING MEDICAL HISTORY, AND I AM SORRY THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT ON BOARD TO BE A PART OF IT!
One last thing~~ if there is anyone who is concerned for my daughter's safety....PLEASE FIND ME SOMEONE WHO WENT TO BEIKE BIOTECH IN CHINA TO HAVE STEM CELL THERAPY THAT FOUND WHAT THEY DID THERE WAS UNETHICAL, UNSAFE, THEY FELT USED OR UNCARED FOR, OR THEY FELT THAT IT WAS A BIG SCAM FOR THEIR MONEY.
